I began eating organic foods in the 70’s. I lived in California for a brief period of time, but that is where I learned about health food stores and just eating healthier in life. It was almost unheard of when I started, but I would drive to a Farmer’s Market about 30 miles from my town to buy wholesome food. It was called Dekalb Farmer’s Market. A gentleman owned it, and his brother worked for him. The brother left the farmer’s market and started Harry’s Market. He then sold to Whole Foods. I raised my children on organic foods, and now they embrace it.
Michael Pollan has a beautiful, informative book called “Food Rules.” I give this small book to many of my friends. Eating healthy doesn’t have to be complicated. Try to stay out of the isles in your local grocery store. Shop on the outside walls, ex: fruits and vegetable, meats, etc. The isles in the grocery store are where all the processed and sugary foods are located. Eat Organic and Grass Fed as much as you can. When eating out at a restaurant, support the ones that serve healthier choices. Stay away from anything with GMO’s! So many folks have issues with Dairy and Gluten in today’s world. Get educated about the food you are putting in your mouth! Support the farmers that are trying to do things right. I have heard folks say this is too expensive of a way to eat, but I believe you either spend money on your food or your health bills. No one can do this for you, educate yourself!
